Anya/Giles

A Better Fate
by Lilith Morgana
Romance; post-Grave

Focuses on Giles as he somewhat guiltily obsesses over Anya. Shorter than One Door Closed (by the same writer), it's just as good. The author's style reminds me of poetry.

All Your Tomorrows

Character study

A not-so-simple little story about Anya's pre-demon days, as she tells Giles about her life. It's been Jossed by Selfless, but it's still one of those fics that makes you go "of course, that makes perfect sense."

Chiaroscuro

Anya (bit of Anya/Giles)

There are so many layers to this that I need to read it a few more times till I'm sure I've got it all. This remembers that Anya is old, far older than Spike or Angel, and it takes the interesting route of exploring her history through artists she's encountered. Part art history, part mystery story, all of it amazing.

Cross Road Blues

Angst; Romance; post-Chosen

Long story that, to paraphrase Frasier Crane, tossed my heart into the blender and hit puree. Gorgeous, romantic, aching ghost story set after Sunnydale.

Eternal Summer, Jealous Sky

Tragedy; futurefic

"Whatever... happens, wherever you are - you'll remember me, right? Even when we're not together any more, and we never sit in front of the fireplace, or on a blanket under the stars, and you never get annoyed with me for falling asleep while you read to me, and I never lock you outside in the rain for criticising my cookery skills..." with some effort, they both smile.
Vignette, twenty years down the line. All about loving and letting go. Sad and romantic. The paragraph I've quoted has me in floods of tears every time I reach it.

Giles and Spike Adventures
by Lori
Romance; Action; Drama; Futurefic; Humour; post S6
Buffy/Spike, Giles/Anya, some Dawn/Wesley in later parts

Run, do not walk, and find this story. Post-season 6 Spike meets up with Giles in the London Underground and they become best mates. Yes, it sounds implausible, but this is a hilarious series with a terrific plot. Too many favourite parts for me to mention, but Wesley babysitting Dawn - with the help of a fifty-page instruction manual from Spike, complete with appendices and colour-coding - is a highlight.

One Door Closed to Shadow
by Lilith Morgana
Romance; post-Grave

It's criminal that there are appallingly-written stories on fanfiction.net that have about six hundred "plz rite more!!!" reviews, while this story has been up for six months and only received three. (I didn't review either, but I freely admit that I suck.) Some time after Grave, Anya goes to Giles in England. There's nothing I can say that will even come close to doing this justice, but it takes what we learned in Selfless and runs with it, giving us an Anya who's trying to find out who she is and a Giles who's deeply conflicted. Outstanding.

Orange Pekoe

Looking back at this to write the blurb I was surprised by its shortness, because there's so much going on in Giles's mind and memory. There are some great turns of phrase here - I'm particularly fond of "Flagrantly, tastelessly, Marilyn-Monroe blonde, in fact, but on Anya the effect was rather fairy-on-the-Christmas- tree, he thinks, than teenage-experiment or prostitute-chic."

Price Tag

Character Study; post-Grave

I love Anya, but her voice is so difficult to get right that there aren't many good pieces about her out there. This little glimpse at her in the ruins of the Magic Box captures perfectly her sadness at the end of her relationship with Xander, and her new feelings for Giles.

Red Flag Danger
by Alex
Romance; angst

Giles/Anya. Because I can't get enough of these two together, especially if it's this well done. Very British tone to this one as Giles thinks about his childhood and the possibility of a relationship with Anya.

Rising From Our Dust

Angst; Romance; Action; Script Form
Buffy/Spike, Anya/Giles, Willow/Xander
A long series of this author's take on season seven. And it's a pretty good one. Nice romance between Giles and Anya, UST for Xander and Willow, a non-irritating Dawn and (of course) Spuffiness. The dialogue's right for all the characters (hard to do) and there's a nice relationship between Xander and Spike. Uh, not in a slash way. Well, some slashiness... There's even bunnies. I liked this a lot. And I don't mind script format when it's used properly and consistently, as this is.

So Many Things to Tell
by OzFan
Romance

"She wants to go and hold him but this death, this is colder than any vengeance and her heart is breaking. She still doesn't understand. No one ever explained to her why." Anya's thoughts as she thinks Giles is dying in Grave, and the aftermath when the world doesn't end.

Anya turns up at Giles's place in London after the non-wedding.

X Miles to the Rest Stop

Character Study; Romance; mid S7

Anya, Giles, Xander, Andrew and Dawn on the roadtrip from hell. A convincing look at how Giles and Anya might get together.
