Buffy/Spike: Season 6

Affinity
by Ginmar
Romance; Drama; Angel Crossover; S6

Buffy starts to fall for our boy. To help her with money, Spike does the unthinkable… and goes to Angel. Long series with lots of romance and funny bits (Angel plastered and stealing Spike's car - I like drunken Angel a lot.) Characters like Halfrek, D'Hoffryn and The Host get a look in, too.

Bachelor Party
Humour; Romance; Angel crossover
Mid season six, Spike gets coerced into throwing Xander's bachelor party and Buffy is forced to re-evaluate the way she feels about him. The Angel Investigations crew get in on the fun too, and there's a little bit of Angel/Cordy. Longish and lots of fun. Loads of great bits - Angel drunkenly slow-dancing with a stripper and giving Spike love advice is one of my favourites.

Better Left Unsaid
by Gwyneth Rhys
Romance; S6

A spell by Willow to restore Spike's human essence lets Buffy meet William. But before all the wacky spell-related hijinks this story delivers one of my favourite scenes in fanfic, a sweet interlude on a moonlit beach as Spike tries to show Buffy that the night has beauty too. Wonderfully written.

Better Than No Love
by Hilary & Shoshanna
Humour; Romance; alt S6
Buffy/Spike, Giles/Anya, Willow/Warren, Andrew/Xander

A love spell in the Magic Box goes awry, causing strangeness for the Scoobies and the two Troika members who happen to be stealing things at the time. Andrew's crush on Xander is hilarious. There's just not enough Xandrew out there.

Bondage Fun
by Moose
Character Study; Dead Things

From the title and the setup, I expected a fun handcuffs scene PWP - and up to a point, it is. But there are also issues raised between Spike and Buffy that explain a lot about why he let her beat him in that alley. Intriguing. I liked. (On a much shallower level, the safe words were amusing.)

The Box Waltz
by Wisteria
Romance; S6

I should just rec everything by this writer, shouldn't I? Our guy and girl play at being normal in the Bronze and Buffy compares Spike to the ordinary guys she sees. I suck at recapping Wisteria's stuff, but she's great, go read it. This is her entry in the "I love you" challenge.

Buffy Summers' Diary: Riley's Return
by Lori
Humour; Action; Romance; S6

Can't believe nobody's done this before. Buffy in style of Bridget Jones? V. good! Riley comes back to town and kidnaps Spike. Buffy sounds a bit English at times (that's probably inevitable given the style) but it's very funny and nicely done. "Dawn is staying with Tara, whom she prefers. Everyone prefers Tara, even me." If I start quoting all the lines I loved I might as well paste the whole thing, so just go and read it. This is the nearest equivalent I've found in Buffy fic to The Very Secret Diaries (possibly the best thing ever written, IMHO) over in the Lord of the Rings fandom.

Dust Becomes Him
by Little Bit
Humour; Angel crossover

This is just too funny. Parody fic wherein the gang think Spike's been dusted and they gather to watch his farewell video. Angel drops in to join the fun too. Takes the piss mercilessly out of the show (Tara's the nicest person ever, Willow's GayNow!, Anya really likes money and Xander is the Mayor of the land of denial).

Elemental
by Kelly Keil
Darkfic
155-word drabble. 'When he finds her, rain is falling, diluting the blood on her face.'

Exquisite Corpse
by d.irge and Thrombus
Humour; Action; post Wrecked; WIP

These are another two writers who I suspect are brain-linked to Joss. This long story is fantastic, stuffed full of laugh-out-loud scenes and one-liners (Xander in the demon bar is genius), and every character is so absolutely right without being reduced to a stereotype. It is Spuffy but there's not too much shippiness so far - though there are some nice moments -and it's plot/action orientated. The style is fast-paced, frenetic and very cool indeed, with a ton of pop culture references tossed in for good measure.

The Ghosts of Saturday Night
by Sophia Jirafe
Angst; post-Older and Far Away

Frustrated by his non-relationship with Buffy, Spike has confrontations with both Tara and Halfrek. The characterization of Tara kicked ass in this; so often in fic she's reduced to a stuttering imbecile. This gave her some backbone. Halfrek/Cecily's backstory was good, too. Not really a shippy fic, but putting it in this section anyway.

Graveyard Dirt
by Tha Wrecka
Drabble; Darkfic
'Autoerotic asphyxiation at its finest. In this light he could almost be a monster.'

Meat
by Flywoman
PWP; Doublemeat Palace
Dark, nasty alley sex.

One Hundred and Forty Seven Ways
by Shrift
Darkfic; Angst; S6

More depressing stuff. Another top-class story where you just know there's no happy ending. As the name would suggest, it's post-Afterlife. Spike's POV. It's very short.

Out on a Limb
Humour; Fluff; post-Gone
No angst, for once, just some smut and lots of witty banter as Buffy catches Spike in the middle of an attempted kitten-snatch. Spike's lame excuse for why exactly he's up a tree, and Buffy's reaction, are very funny, as is Spike going gameface at the kitten.

Photo Op
by Cousin Jean
Fluff; PWP
Fun with photo booths.

Population Explosion
by Colleen Hillerup
Humour; Baby Fic
Buffy/Spike, Riley/Harmony, Angel/Cordelia

Looks like Connor wasn't so special after all, and vamps are dropping sprogs left, right and centre. If you're in the mood for funny, undemanding fluff, give this one a go. There's not much to the plot, but it's fun and decently written.

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy: Spike
by Mezz
Buffy/Spike
Crossover; Humour; S6
Okay, not living in America, I've never actually seen Queer Eye for a Straight Guy, but I still thought this was funny. Spike gets a makeover.

Rain
by Bluelight
Romance; Angst

Beautiful, lyrical writing in this short piece set after Wrecked. There's some gorgeous imagery here.

Reunion
by Jamie
Drama; Crossover with AtS; Post Wrecked

Cordelia has a vision of Buffy and Spike fighting in an abandoned house and gets the entirely wrong impression. She and Angel arrive in Sunnydale to save Buffy, only to realise they weren't, err, fighting exactly… Meanwhile the Scoobies find out about Connor. Longish work in progress with some good bits from supporting characters (notably Anya) and great dialogue. Unfortunately it hasn't been updated in a long time.

Six Foot Deep
by Jessica Walker and Kita
Darkfic; S6

Harsh and dark and utterly brilliant. About as far from fluffy Spuffy as it's possible to be, this is Spike's POV after Buffy's death and her resurrection. Their Spike isn't redeemed (and doesn't want to be) and he's not good, but he's somehow sympathetic and more importantly he's real. Some B/A too, also mention of Spike/Dru and Spike/Angel. Simply stunning.

Still Life in Sunnydale
Darkfic
You know how sometimes you read a fic that utterly takes your breath away and unsettles you so much that it refuses to leave your head for many weeks? Yep, this is one of those. Spike inadvertently makes a bad wish and things take a decided turn for the worse (the word "handbasket" leaps to mind). There's incredibly hot smut, too, but that's just a bonus. I like my darkfic horrifying (otherwise what's the point?) and this one delivers in spades. The Summit
by ValerieX
Humour; Angst; Romance; S6

Consider my mind boggled. Dubya/Vladimir Putin slash? Said ambiguously gay duo as the Big Bad? Surely, I thought, this is a parody… and yet this is a great S/B story that has some lovely moments between them as they clumsily move towards a relationship. Dawn's wise-beyond-her-years speech to Buffy was great. And of course there are some hilarious comedy moment. "Go back to hell, Dick Cheney!" has been known to appear in my sig.

Super Food World
by ValerieX
Humour; Romance; S6

Set during season 6. Spike and Buffy go grocery shopping. It's packed full of great one-liners and laugh-out-loud scenes (loved Buffy telling Dawn about the supermarket scanners affecting Spike's chip, and the screaming match by the deli counter. "You dropped an organ on me!" "You sent an ancient order of assassins after me!")

Thrall
by Chase820
Drama; Horror; Hurt/Comfort; S6

Following immediately after Wrecked, Buffy discovers that the breaking of the urn at a critical moment changed the resurrection spell into something else… don't want to give much of the plot away but there's angst and smut, both very well done. Still a work in progress.

Try a Little Tenderness
Horror; Romance; Hurt/Comfort
Warning for the more squeamish readers: Spike's badly hurt in this one. Buffy offers up her blood to save him. Angsty but sweet and somehow manages to be a retread of the similar scenario in Graduation Day. Tara, Willow, Xander and Dawn get minor roles too.

Vanishing Act
by Nautibitz
Humour; S6

Right after Gone, Xander finally gains a clue about "naked exercising". Short and funny.
