Buffy/Spike: Futurefic

These are the future stories that don't include the Chosen canon. For post-Chosen fics, step this way.

And He Will Be Loved
by Silvia Kundera
Character Study; Futurefic
Written before Chosen, I'm not sure I entirely get this (probably me being dense), but I don't care because it's just beautiful.

Angels of the Silences
by Annie Sewell-Jennings
Angst; Romance; AU Futurefic
Three years after Showtime, Buffy and Spike are the only survivors of Sunnydale. Lovely, depressing long story.

Awkward, Much?
Humour
After a blazing row, Buffy tries to wreak some vengeance on Spike via a still-demoned Anya. Narrated by Anya (the voice is perfect), this is hilarious. I love her take on Spike drunkenly calling himself a "big old poofter".

The Ballad of Randy and Joan
by Annie Sewell Jennings
Darkfic, Futurefic
The title's misleading. This has very little to do with Tabula Rasa and lots to do with running away from memories that are too painful to live with. Years in the future, "Joan" knows nothing about her past and believes that "Randy", the man she loves, found her after the catastrophe that nearly destroyed the world. Since then she's covered herself in tattoos of words and snippets that come to her in dreams - "Glory. Fireman in the floods. You haven’t even begun. Joyce. Close your eyes. Love’s bitch. Scooby. Willow. 730. Death is my gift. Going through the motions. The Master. Angelus. Shallow cuts. Moment of happiness. A creature worth saving. The Harvest. Jenny. Is this hell. The Initiative. Class Protector. Hellmouth. Xander. Let it burn. Faith… Dawn." When they finally run into Faith and Joan finds out her real name and history, things fall apart. The writing is amazingly beautiful and my heart broke for Spike, particularly at the ending. This is so original and perfectly crafted that I really can't do it justice. Might not be an idea to read it while depressed.

Cuore Della Notte
by 1st Rabid
Angst; Drama; AU

Written a few years back, this is the author's view of how the series should end. Two years after season 5, Spike has been accepted into the Scoobies, but Buffy is wary of starting a relationship with him. Then the Order of Aurelius arrives to complicate things. Excellent novella with an ending I'd love to see on the show.

Darkside, Lightside
by Rowan
Horror; Darkfic; Futurefic
Warning: darkfic, character deaths. Spike is not a good guy in this - and yet he's still sympathetic. Beautiful and poetic, this broke my heart. Pretty short.

Dry Kind of Love
by Girl With Journal
Original Characters; Futurefic; Horror

Fifteen years in the future Spike and Buffy are now Anne and William, a very ordinary married couple far away from Sunnydale - until Dru and Darla find them. Told through the eyes of Buffy and Spike's shellshocked 15-year-old daughter Zoe, who knows nothing about slayers or vampires, this is stunning. Even though the main characters take backseat to the new generation Scoobies, Girl made me really care about these new guys.

I'd Kiss You But I Just Washed My Hair
by Troll Princess
Futurefic
Buffy/Spike, Angel/Cordelia

Buffy and Angel meet up a year in the future. She finds out about Cordelia, he finds out about Spike, and they finally get some closure. This one's really sweet, and I loved the Slayer dream giving a glimpse of the future and why Buffy and Angel's relationship was never meant to work out. Troll Princess has one of my favourite styles in fanfic.

I'll Fly Away
by Starbaby
Romance; Angst; Futurefic; WIP

The events of late season 6 never happened. Spike and Buffy have been dancing around each other, never getting back together but never staying out of each other's lives. With Dawn packed off for the summer, they take a little road trip, and buried feelings start to make themselves very much known. Just when things are going right, Dawn runs foul of a vampire and gets herself sired. Warning for character death (other than Dawn). The dialogue is perfect and the writing gorgeous.

The Last Summer
by Annie Sewell Jennings
Darkfic; AU
With the Scoobies and Angel dead and half the planet destroyed in a nuclear cataclysm, Buffy runs away to Australia to wait for the end of the world. There, she runs into Spike and they start their destructive, fatalistic relationship. It's vivid, depressing and not like anything else out there. The language, as always, is beautiful. Novel-length; has some mention of B/A and Spike/Dru.

Like Pennies
by Mcee
Vignette

Just a moment in an established relationship, as Spike and Buffy shop for food. Simple, elegant and lovely.

Little Poet, Little Vamp
by Gidgetgirl
Humour; AU Futurefic
Buffy and Spike's young twins wind their daddy around their little fingers. Aww. Now I dead from cute.

Narcosis
by Rowan
Angst; Futurefic

Vignette. Spike's chip is out, but at a terrible price. Buffy's POV as she watches over him and he speaks to her in dreams. Depressing but beautifully written, with a lovely final paragraph about fairytales and truth.

Q&A
Fluff; Futurefic
A bunch of very short vignettes about Buffy and Spike's five-year-old daughter, Meredith, one of my favourite kids in fanfic. The focus is on Meredith and how she sees her parents and her world, which gives an interesting perspective into things. Too cute for words.

Seven Years in the Desert
by Caro
Romance; Angst; Futurefic; WIP

Seven years after winning his soul (season 7 never happened), Spike is a Watcher in England, when he receives word that Buffy's getting married (to an original male character). It's great to see Spike with friends and a purpose in life, and I'm very interested to see where this goes once he returns to Sunnydale. I like that Giles and Anya are married in this version of the future.

Slaying In
by Nautibitz Humour; Futurefic
"Can you really see Buffy and Spike in a condo arguing over what to watch on TV?" sneered Marti Noxon. Thankfully we have Nautibitz to tell us how that would go.
