Future Imperfect

Season 6 never happened; instead, some three hundred years in the future (with some "help" from Lilah Morgan) the Earth has been overrun by vampires. The Watchers' solution is to resurrect history's most famous Slayer… This is a very cool sci-fi premise, and a nice look at Spike, tempered by three centuries of watching over the Scoobies' descendants. Nice Spuffy romance too, of course, and an ending I didn't see coming.

In These Winter Weeks

A nice (if that's the right word) study of misery in the days after Buffy's death, as Spike and Dawn visit her grave. Well written and desperately sad. It's short.

The Healing

Nice longish short story (if that makes sense) that assumes Buffy and Spike were just starting a relationship in the final episodes of season 5. I really liked this version of Buffy's experience in the afterlife and her resurrection. The parts with the First Slayer were good, and the dialogue for all the characters was terrific (special props to Spike and Giles, who have excellent voices in this)

Ghost in the Shell
Drama; Action; Angst; Romance; post-Gift
Buffy in the style of Chuck Palahniuk should not work. Yet this is one of the best Buffy "voices" I've read. Post The Gift, Buffy is resurrected in Faith's body - with the proviso that she can't tell her former friends who she really is. One of my all-time favourites, and I love the B/S relationship in this.

The best word I can think of is "bleak". It took the gang seven years to figure out how to raise Buffy, and seven years of changes is a long time to have been away.
