Imposters in This Country

In an AU where Drusilla killed Giles in Becoming and Buffy didn't return to Sunnydale after the events of Anne, Wesley tracks her down and tries to bring her home. Despite the time this is set (equivalent to season 3, since Buffy's 17), Wesley is a little closer to the dark Wes of AtS season 4 than the foppish guy we first met, but I loved the characters in this as Buffy reluctantly returns home - but taking the scenic route so she can train her new Watcher. The inevitable round of sex in sleazy motels follows, but in a way that I could believe these two would behave. Long, with great writing.

Two Steps Back

Wesley arrives back at Sunnydale to serve as the high school's new librarian, and he and Buffy are startled by the changes in each other. I've been wondering about the possibility of Buffy/Wes since noting the similarities in their relationships with Spike and Lilah, and this works very well indeed - a pairing who are too damaged for fluffy romance, but who are drawn to one another all the same. There's minor mention of Angel/Wesley and Spike/Angel. The character voices of Buffy, Wes and (insane) Spike are wonderfully drawn.

Small Steps

Buffy/Wesley. Sequel to Two Steps Back, this cranks the uneasiness factor up a notch - Wesley's re-enactment of the events of Seeing Red is dark, deeply disturbing, and oddly believable. I love this writer's style, and the fact that even while she's moving on to someone new, Buffy is trying to help Spike. The scene of her returning the coat to him was sweet, and once again the voices are spot-on.
