Amnesia! Spike
by Mahaliem
Spike/Xander, Spike/Buffy, Spike/Angel...
Humour; S6
A spell gone wrong leaves Spike unable to remember anything, but once he starts to piece together the evidence there's only one logical conclusion - he must be in love with Xander. I'm giggling just thinking about this one.
The Boys
by Aura
Spike, Giles
Vignette; Character Study; season 5
Spike reluctantly plays babysitter after Giles is injured, and gets to hear about
Ripper's past. Sharp, cool dialogue. I love this line: "think you could kill
yourself in some runny way, and aim the blood into bottles?"
A Day in the Life by
Halrloprillalar Spike, Giles Humour; Vignette; S4 If I wish really
really hard it will be canon that Spike and Giles talked about the Beatles and
had a jamming session in season four. It will.
The Dead Slayer Sketch
by Just Me
Humour
If you've never seen Monty Python's famous dead parrot sketch, this will make no sense. For the other 99% of you, this is a tiny little piece wherein Spike registers a complaint at the Council of Watchers. She's not dead, she's pining for heaaaveeeen. Very funny indeed.
Dying in Their Name
by Branwyn
Anya, Spike
Character Study; post-Chosen
Aww. Just aww. Ficlet about Spike and Anya right after their deaths.
Emulating Atlas
by Girl With Journal
Futurefic; Vignette
Girl rocks. If Neil Gaiman wrote for Buffy, he might write Girl's stuff. This is a very short, sweet piece about Spike set many many years after The Gift, as he keeps his final promise to Buffy. Not a word is out of place or wasted. One of the very few fics I have printed so I can read it offline. Redemption-orientated.
The Fanged Four: A Trio of Fairytales
by Kita
Spike/Dru, Angelus/Dru, Angelus/Darla, Angelus/Spike
Darkfic; pre-series
All three of the 'fairytales' here are dark and delicious. I was especially enamoured
of Drusilla's voice in the middle segment.
Favour
by Marcus L. Rowland
Vignette; Crossover; post-Seeing Red
Crossover with the Garth Ennis comic Preacher. Jesse Custer (the preacher of the comic's title) counsels a depressed vampire in a
bar.
Giant Pink Bug by
Adam Windsor Anya/Xander, Spike/Spike Humour, S5 Anya and Xander take a
trip to the world without shrimp for the purposes of kinky public sex. Spike
tags along and shags his alternate counterpart. Great ending.
Given Name
by Julie T. Jekel
Crossover; Futurefic
Crossover with Firefly. Five hundred years in the future, River watches Serenity's new
passenger. Does a great job of merging the two universes.
Good to the Last Drop
by Jane Davitt
S4, pre-chip
Spike kills a young couple on campus. All about murder with some non-consensual oral sex thrown in, and it still manages to be wickedly funny as well as dark. Or maybe I just have an odd sense of humour.
I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt
by Delia
Humour; early S5
Ghostly Spike experiments with his appearance.
Lie to Me Now
by Regala Electra
Spike/f
Poetry? after Chosen
This is strange and twisty and poetic, and made me think of the Ted Hughes poem
Lovesong.
Many Loves
by Jessica Walker
Spike (bits of Spike/Angelus, Spike/Dru, Spike/Buffy)
This was one of the first fics I ever read, and there's only one reason it wasn't recced here long ago - I thought I should read it again before I could even try to do it justice. Except that's clearly a lost cause, so all I'll say is: read this one. Spanning from William's turning to Buffy's death in The Gift, this is the story of Spike's unlife. And in my head, this is the canon, and has been all along.
Rock and a Hard Place
by Mad Poetess
Character Study; Vignette; Crush
It contains elements of Spike/Dru and Spike/Buffy, but mainly this is just Spike as he thinks about rock music and the chip in his head (and the author manages to tie the two together very nicely).
Spike Jones' Diary
by Jonquil
Humour; Episode Based
Short humour piece (unsurprisingly) based on the Bridget Jones concept and yet managing to sound very Spiky. Love the comment on Harsh Light of Day: Alcohol units: 25 (good). Shags: 0 (pathetic). Victims: 2 (streets) ½ (larder). Fags: 100 (badly needed). Time in sunlight: 8 hours (lovely). Arse-kickings by Slayer: 1 (horrible) Rings of Amara: 1, then 0 (unacceptable) 11 A.M.: Staked Harmony (v.v.v.v. good). Discovered Ring of Amara (excellent). Caused much mayhem in streets of Sunnydale in daylight. (outstanding). Had not realized how pale had grown due to artificial lighting and mirror difficulties. Contemplating self-tanner if melanin problem persists. On second thought, orange vampire comic, not terrifying. I just wish this one was a lot longer.
Strangers are Less Strange
by Sophia Jirafe
Character Study; Crossover; post-Grave
Newly souled and disorientated, Spike talks to a couple on a beach. It's a crossover
with The X-Files, but this can be read without knowing a thing about Mulder and
Scully. I loved the fragments of memory that keep coming to Spike as he gets confused
about his past.
Stuck With a Mirror
by The Brat Queen
Character Study; Humour; The Replacement
Fun reimagining of the Season Five episode The Replacement that explores what would have happened if Spike had been duplicated instead of Xander. The double, William, is sweet, shy and eager to please. Naturally there's a personality clash, but as he gets to know him(self), Spike comes to terms with William. The rest of the Scoobies have minor roles but get some great lines. "Absolutely lovely," Giles replied. He put his glasses back on. He spared a twitch of a smile in William's direction. "Two Spikes. Yes. I knew it was a Monday and yet I had no idea the full implications of that until just now. Brilliant."
This Could be the Start of a Beautiful Friendship
by Mahaliem
Spike, Xander, Willow
Humour; alt-S7
Written before Chosen. Xander, Willow and Spike say goodbye to Buffy at the airport
and the three of them bond. Fluffy and sweet friendship piece.
Two Souled Vamps
by Nimue
Humour; Post Grave
Short humour piece about Angel finding out Spike has a soul, and Spike finding out something interesting about Angel. Contains what may be my favourite line in all of fanfic: "What?" Angel said, a look of surprise spreading from the tips of his gelled head to his oddly feminine shoes. Warning: tons of Angel-bashing. Don't read this one while drinking anything. I did, and it took me a while to clean the monitor after one particular line about Angel (you'll know when you see what his big revelation is).
Yank Thanksgiving
by
Cynthia Martin Spike, Angel, AtS Ensemble
post-Destiny
Spike turns up roaring drunk at Angel's thanksgiving bash.
