Novella. As the title suggests, this is set before we ever met Tara and is the story of her first love affair. I liked Tara's mom and the original character a lot. Loved the setting of this, how real the houses and the school and the woods felt.

Part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. Willow fixed Tara's mind when they beat Glory, but Tara still hears the mice in the darkness… I loved the juxtaposition of Tara's sweet, gentle thoughts and the nightmares that lurk just below the surface. Flesh-crawling creepiness that's probably not for arachnophobes.

the subject matter makes me shiver. I think it's the title that makes me make odd and interesting connections in my head to the comic Preacher.
